Washburn papers, 1861-1864; chiefly letters to Washburn, military orders, etc. Selections from the Dudley J. Spaulding papers [1879-99, including letters, legal papers, land plats]; chiefly concerning his lumbering activities in Arkansas and other states. Archibald Yell papers, letter August 5, 1838, clipping regarding Gov. Yell and the two letters he wrote to the Secty. of War in 1843 on frontier protection from the Indians.

Stand Watie, also known as Standhope, Oowatie, Degataga, and Isaac S. Watie, was a Cherokee Nation leader and brigadier general in the Confederate Army. He was born into the Cherokee Nation in Calhoun, Georgia, on December 12, 1806, and was educated at a Moravian mission school in Spring Place, Georgia.
